January 30, 2018 @ 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Mary Jane Ayers gives Barbara Gail Her First Voice Lesson.

*NOTE! Did you miss the Part 1 series back in the Fall, but wanna join us for Part 2? Well, here’s your chance! Mary Jane has graciously offered to give you a 2-hour Intro on TUESDAY, JANUARY 23, from 3-5pm. Register early, because upon registering you’ll receive voice memo recordings of the vocal exercises & songs from Part 1, which was a 6-week series! Please give yourself at minimum 2 week’s time to work with this material before January 23. There are several, but they’re short, & it’ll be worth it so that you can get caught up. This opportunity also allows you to check it out first to see if the Part 2 series is right for you. The cost for this Introductory crash course is $25.

Your First Voice Lessons: Part 2
6 Tuesdays: January 30 thru March 13 (no 2/20); 3-5pm

From enjoyable stretching, breathing & singing exercises that are energizing & freeing, to discovering your vocal range & singing beautiful songs, Mary Jane applies her wealth of musical knowledge & teaching experience to utilize different learning modalities that are fun & fascinating.

Learn to sing using vocal techniques & exercises that explore vocal anatomy, body posture, breath management, mouth position, phonation, resonance, tonal quality, tuning, articulation, style, song interpretation, memorization, & presentation.

Exercises for home practice will be shared, so you’ll need a recording device (either a smart phone, or a small digital or cassette recorder.) Also bring a pencil with an eraser, & a one-inch binder to hold music & other handouts.

“Singing is good for you physically & mentally, & it’s a socially rich experience as well,”says Mary Jane Ayers, DMA, who moved to Sarasota in September 2015 after many years as an educator, musician, administrator, composer, & writer. She was Chair of Vocal Music at Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington DC, where she taught Vocal Techniques & Introduction to Acting, & was founder & director of the Duke Ellington Opera Workshop. Previously she was on the faculties of Catawba College & Georgia Southern University.

Dr. Ayers has performed extensively as a vocal soloist, recitalist, & conductor. In 2013-14 she was the choral music director & choral arranger for Ellington productions of The 40th Anniversary Concert, 3 Mo’ Tenors, & the fundraising Legends series: Sting & Paul Simon.

Mary Jane is also a stage producer & director for opera & other theater productions & music recitals. In 2009 she won the Yale University Distinguished Music Educator Award. Her novel “Helen: Mystery in a Small Town” is available on Amazon.

$105 for 6 weeks, includes all weekly hand-outs.
